3 Experiences You Need to have During University
Many people describe university as the best years of their life. The transition from teenager to adulthood is full of all kinds of new experiences: moving away from home, buying groceries, cooking all of your own meals, and so much more. There are so many new experiences in university, which makes it the perfect time to try other new things!
Here’s a list of a few new things that I think you should try during your time at university:
Join a club!
Clubs are a great way to meet people and get involved in the community. Your first year of school is the perfect time to integrate yourself into university life. I always wanted to take dance lessons but never had the opportunity. So, this year I decided to try something new and join Dance Crew! Ambrose University has some pretty amazing clubs, including:
- Baking Club
- Hockey Club
- R.A.N.T- Really Amazing, Not Talented: A Writer's Club
- Biology (League of Aspiring Biologists)
- Gaming Club
- Lions Dance Crew
Take a class!
The main purpose of attending university is to learn. Within your program, there will be many required courses that you must take, but you also have the freedom to choose fun and interesting electives.
Why not take a class you wouldn’t normally consider taking? You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge beyond one area and develop skills that will prepare you for your future. For example, I found my Theatre performance course helped me develop my preaching skills and taught me to be more comfortable in front of a crowd. You’ll never know how much you might enjoy a class until you take it!
Be a leader!
Like clubs, student leadership positions allow you to get to know people and get actively involved in the community. They are a great way to develop professional skills such as time management, organizational skills, and communication. They also look great on your resume! University is a great time to take on a new leadership role and develop helpful skills for your career.
Ambrose offers a wide variety of leadership roles including
- Student Council
- Residence Assistants
- Athletic Leaders
These are just a few ways that you can try something new and make the most of your time at university. As you prepare for your journey of education in university, I want to encourage you to be fully present in the moment and seize every opportunity that comes your way. Homework and studying are both very important and should be a priority, but it is also important to make friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Be open to taking late night ice cream runs, joining a spontaneous game of Frisbee, or going swing dancing on a Friday night! There are so many things out there to be tried and explored, and the only way to do that is to try something new! Best of luck!
