Ambrose @ Your High School
Ambrose Business is offering faculty-designed, student-led workshops for high school business classes! Your students will have the opportunity to learn about present trends and examples in responsible business today from current business students. These interactive workshops will prepare high school students for what is relevant in their pursuit of business studies and careers.
2019/20 workshop themes:
- United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
- Responsible Business - Interconnecting Profit and Purpose
A great way to gain real-world experience is through putting creativity and knowledge together to solve a relevant problem. In partnership with Soul of the Next Economy Forum, Ambrose Business is offering a multi-stage “Better Business” case competition for high school students to explore responsible solutions to business and societal problems. The case competition is aimed towards grades 11 and 12 students taking a business elective or in a business-related club.
Students will develop a viable for-profit business idea to combat a local issue. The issue will be provided and may include topics such as recycling, affordable and environmentally friendly transport, affordable housing, or commuter costs.
Stage One will be done within the high school and scheduled by the teacher or club leader. The team or selected representatives (up to four students per class/club) will advance to Stage Two to compete against other high school teams.
A full case package, including case information, criteria, and resources will be provided to the teacher or club leader for Stage One. Subject to scheduling, an Ambrose Business student can act as one of your judges and your case package will include other contacts and ideas for local guest judges.
Teams that advance from Stage One will be given the task of solving a specific strategic issue for a real, local business. This is an exciting opportunity for high school students to begin making connections and creatively addressing real business matters.
The Stage Two competition will take place at Ambrose University on the morning of Thursday, November 14, 2019, as a pre-event to the Soul of the Next Economy Forum. Student teams will be given the case prior to the competition date. The expectation will be to create a solution with a proposal and presentation which will be presented to a panel of judges from the Calgary business community. Ambrose Business students will offer coaching to teams in developing and pitching their final idea. Teachers may advise up to but not at the final Stage Two competition.
All students taking part in the Stage Two competition are provided with complimentary admissions to the Soul of the Next Economy Forum, which takes place the afternoon of Thursday, November 14 and all day Friday, November 15. All students will be recognized at Soul Forum and winners will be announced! Teachers are invited to attend on a complimentary basis as well.
