Campus Chaplain

The Ambrose Campus Chaplain works within Student Life and in coordination with the President and others to foster the spiritual life on campus. The Campus Chaplain is responsible for the planning,   development and implementation of meaningful opportunities for spiritual and faith formation that are in alignment with the Ambrose mission.  The Campus Chaplain is concerned with the spiritual climate of the whole campus with a particular emphasis on serving students through leadership development, mentoring, pastoral care, and by cultivating opportunities to participate in robust corporate worship and spiritual practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the steward for the spiritual life and climate of the Ambrose campus.
  • Provide leadership in the planning and implementation and facilitation of a visionary, relevant, and, integrated chapel program for the campus community. 
  • Integrating current global and local events into campus spiritual life programming through worship and service with a special focus on reconciliation and redemptive action.
  • In a pastorally sensitive way, provide spiritual care and counselling to the members of the Ambrose community.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor student leaders in the spiritual life department and provide spiritual care and guidance to student leaders in their distinct roles.
  • Supervise and evaluate paid staff in the Chaplain’s Office  
  • Lead the planning and implementation of Deeper Life Day and Faith, Life, and Learning as well as other campus wide learning events that foster spiritual vitality and meaningful learning on campus.
  • Coordinates: Sound and Video personnel for chapel and DLD production and works with Campus Services personnel for chapel set-up and tear-down
  • Effectively promote spiritual life events
  • Actively participate in the student life team and serve on committees as required.
  • Offer guidance to the Athletics department in fostering a robust Athletics chaplaincy program.
  • Steward the founding faith traditions on Ambrose campus by faithfully representing Ambrose to external community and through all aspects of the role.
  • In coordination with the SVP Academic Affairs teach up to two classes per year one of which will be during the spring/ summer module.



Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in a ministry related field required. Doctorate degree or terminal degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 or more years of leadership in a ministry context
  • Experience working in higher education and with young adults preferred

  • Work effectively with volunteers
  • Strong skills in biblical exegesis, interpretation, and application of scripture
  • Skilled in program design, implementation, and assessment motivated by constant improvement,
  • Skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to appropriately exercise independent judgement, discretion, and confidentiality when responding to sensitive issues, complaints, and student issues.
  • Display a high level of intercultural competence, knowledge and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion to work effectively with a diverse multicultural student and staff population.
  • Work effectively in a team-oriented environment and effectively contribute to the work of student life.  
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
