Monkman to lead both soccer programs

Ambrose Lions Athletics is very pleased to announce that it has arrived at an exciting hire for the Women’s Soccer Head Coach position for Fall 2019. While the current coaching staff, led by Paul Barnett, will remain the same until the run for an ACAC Futsal Championship in mid-March is over, Adam Monkman, current Head Coach of the Lions Men’s Soccer Program, will take the reigns as the Head Coach of both the Women’s and Men’s Soccer programs at the conclusion of this season.

It is common amongst post-secondary Institutions to have a strong Head Coach lead both Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs, and Ambrose Athletics is excited for the possibilities and opportunities that this will afford as well—unity between the teams, strong and consistent technical development, and stream-lined communication. Adam says this about the new opportunity before him: “I'm excited about the collaborative and unified approach moving forward overseeing both teams. It will further strengthen the culture we are creating both amongst our teams and within the University at large. A strong culture of unity, character and competition is at the forefront of building an excellent program.”

Athletic Director Colin Kubinec states: “We are very excited that Adam is eager to lead both our Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs. Adam and his coaching staff have done an excellent job with the Men’s program as we have entered ACAC Soccer, and we are excited to see his strong culture development, leadership, and student-development focus bring new dimensions of growth to the Women’s program as well.”

As mentioned above, Head Coach Paul Barnett and his staff will continue to lead the team for the remainder of the 2018-19 season, while Adam will begin supporting the team in an Assistant Coach role until the end of the season and heavily focus on recruiting for the 2019-20 season. Coach Paul Barnett has done a wonderful job with this Inaugural ACAC Lions Women’s Soccer team as Interim Head Coach, and Lions Athletics wants to thank him for his service to the team and University.
