Basketball Teams Defeated by Red Deer Kings and Queens
It was a tough night for both the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams in the Lion’s Den on Friday, November 25. The women lost 75-48 to the Red Deer College Queens. Player of the Game for the Lions was #22 Amie Spiers, who played a great game, shooting 5/10 from the field for 12 points and 4 rebounds. The women played hard but struggled to hit 3 pointers which contributed to their lower score of 48 points.
The Men’s game was closer and the first half was very competitive. The size and rebounding of the King’s frontcourt of Matt Matear and Shayne Stumpf proved too much for the Lions as those two players netted 41 points and 22 rebounds combined. The Player of the Game for the Lion’s was Marcus Harris who had 18 points and 5 rebounds. The Red Deer Kings shot 52% from the field as a team, while the Lion’s hit just 30.1% of their shots.
Overall, the Lions struggled to overcome the size of the Kings. We know they are capable of better performances and look forward to the competition in the New Year.
The next Basketball games in the Lion’s Den are on Jan 14th when the Lions take on the Lethbridge Kodiaks.
