Golf Tournament Supports Athletics

Ambrose University was blessed with a fantastic day of good weather, fellowship, and fundraising for its 2016 Golf Classic. On the Links of GlenEagles course in Cochrane, AB, the golfers had the opportunity to enjoy pristine course conditions and a beautiful fall day. Eighty-one golfers took a shot at three hole-in-one car giveaways and our “Beat the Athletics Director” contest. The latter was hard to do, as Director Colin Kubinec actually has a hole-in-one on his resume!

Organizing Committee Chairman and Director of Development, Jason Demers, had this to say about the day: “This year’s golf tournament was blessed with great weather and a great group of golfers. A particular highlight was meeting with all of the athletes located throughout the course.”

After the round of golf everyone enjoyed a tasty dinner and the evening program. President Gordon T. Smith shared a welcome and alumnus Dylan Squires (2015-16 winner of the Mel Sylvester Athletic Leadership Award) spoke about how the Lions program has affected his life for the better. Colin also gave an update about the Athletics Department and provided inspiration from a passage in Genesis 12.

To wrap up the evening, prizes were awarded for achievement in various categories. Former Ambrose Board Chair Alex Baum was gifted with a signed Lions jersey in recognition of his support and help with our Golf Classic over the years. Fittingly, he and his sons also walked away with the lowest score (-18) of the day.

This year's tournament was instrumental in supporting our Athletics program. We raised $36,000 in support of Lions Athletics, our student athletes volunteered with spirit, and the Ambrose staff and the golf committee did a fantastic job of organizing the event.

The Athletics Department is grateful for everyone who helped make the day a success. “We would like to express our great thanks to the golfers and sponsors for coming out and supporting Ambrose Lions Athletics," Colin says. "Seeing the supporters engage with our student athletes was a highlight; the weather was perfect, and it was a great day on the links. We are very grateful!”
