Michael Eastep was raised in Florida. After study with William Cramer at Florida State University he completed his Bachelor of Music Degree at North Texas State University, where he studied with David Kuehn. He studied for a year with Arnold Jacobs of the Chicago Symphony before becoming Principal Tuba in the Winnipeg Symphony in 1975.

In 1982 Michael became Principal Tuba in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and began teaching at the University of Calgary in the same year. In 1998 he received a Master's degree from the U. of C. He has been actively involved with Altius Brass, the Bow Valley Brass Quintet and the provincial tuba/euphonium ensemble Albertasaurus.  In addition, he has performed with the Vancouver Symphony, the Red Deer Symphony and the Foothills Brass Quintet.
