Seminary Admission Requirements

Personal Qualifications

Recognizing that the primary purpose of Ambrose Seminary is to prepare students for Christian ministries, applicants should be prepared to meet the rigorous demands of such preparation. All applicants are asked to submit a 2-3 page testimony. Applicants must evidence a personal commitment to Christ that has existed at least one year prior to the projected date of enrolment, and should evidence balanced personality, reputable character, and a motivation to learn.  Within the testimony we look for the following aspects:

Description of your faith journey

Explanation of ministry involvement

In addition, seminary applicants are required to submit a Pastoral/Denominational Leader Reference and an Employer/Professional Acquaintance reference.

Academic Qualifications

  An undergraduate degree or its equivalent from a recognized accredited university, college, or Bible college.

  At least 30 hours of liberal arts and science at the undergraduate level

  A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in the last 60 credits of study.

 English Language Requirements

If your primary language is not English, you must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following (official test scores must be sent directly to Ambrose University by the testing body and the tests must have been taken within the last two years of your application):

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – a minimum score of 83 on the internet based test (IBT) and 560 on the paper based test (PBT)

International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic) – a minimum score of 6.5

Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) – a minimum score of 85

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) – a minimum score of 70

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) – a minimum score of  58

A passing grade in English 30-1 or its equivalent

The requirement may be waived at the discretion of the University in cases where a student has attended an equivalent institution in North America, or can demonstrate English proficiency by other means.

English Language Requirements for Chinese Language Programs

Master’s degree programs

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Such applicants may demonstrate English proficiency by one of the following:

  • graduation from a college or university where English was the medium of instruction; or
  • a minimum score of 500 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test, or a minimum score of 61 on the internet-based TOEFL* test; or
  • a minimum score of 5.0 on the IELTS Academic test

Certificate and Diploma Programs

Applicants are not required to provide proof of English Proficiency for admission to Certificate and Diploma programs because the language of instruction is in the Chinese language.  If a student wishes to enrol in an English language course, or change to a Master’s level program, he or she will be required to provide proof of English proficiency as stated above.
