Ambrose University is pleased to announce the winner of the Presidential Scholarship, Joanna Jones.

Joanna is coming to Ambrose from La Glace, AB, where she is graduating from the Centre for Learning@Home. Joanna is planning to pursue a bachelor of arts in music, followed by a bachelor of education.

“When I heard from President Smith that I had won the Presidential Scholarship, I could hardly believe it! My heart was just overflowing with joy and thankfulness. It was one of the most exciting days of my life,” said Joanna. “I had been looking for a university that would enrich my faith and offer programs that would help me to pursue my career goals, and when I learned about Ambrose, I thought it was an excellent fit.”

The Presidential Scholarship is offered to a current high school student whose Ambrose education will enable them to be servant leaders involved in transforming their workplace, church or community for the glory of God. The Presidential Scholarship provides full tuition for up to four years, eight consecutive semesters, or the completion of one degree. This highly competitive award draws applications from top high school students from across Canada and beyond. Accomplishments in academics, church, and community involvement are all considered in a comprehensive selection process. Faculty evaluate and interview candidates, and select one recipient each year.

“I feel so honoured and blessed to have been chosen as the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship. Attending a Christian university has been a dream of mine since childhood, and for years now I have been working with my family to try to find a way to make that dream financially feasible. The Presidential Scholarship makes such a difference to me in alleviating that financial pressure, so that I will be able to focus more fully on my academic studies and spiritual development during my time at Ambrose. Also, one of my ambitions is to pursue an after-degree in education and become a teacher, so by providing the tuition for my undergraduate degree, the Presidential Scholarship will allow me to start saving up for my after-degree,” added Joanna.

Joanna aspires to become an elementary teacher after being inspired by her own teachers throughout her education.

“I would love to have that opportunity of inspiring students and getting them excited about the unique futures God has planned for them. Also, although I am not entirely sure how yet, I would like to find a way to use my love of music in a professional capacity. It may be through teaching private piano lessons, teaching music in a school setting, or serving as a church pianist. Possibly all of the above!”

Congratulations Joanna – we look forward to seeing you this fall.
