Hiring: Ambrose Library Student Worker (Part-time)

Come join the Library team! We are looking to hire an Ambrose student for the remainder of the Winter semester. The contract runs until the end of exams in April 2022 with the possibility of rehiring in September 2022 for the 2022-2023 school year if the successful candidate is a returning student.

Please note that during the remainder of the winter semester, the successful candidate must be available to work Thursday evenings (3-5 hours per week), and this may be the only shift they are scheduled for.

Library Student Workers typically:

  • Answer in person, email, and over-the-phone questions
  • Check out and return books, process hold requests
  • Help students learn and utilize the Library’s resources (search & find books, articles, etc.)
  • Maintain an atmosphere conducive to study for library patrons
  • Shelve books, process new books
  • Carry out opening/closing library procedures
  • Perform any other duties as determined by Library Staff

To succeed in the job, Student Workers:

  • Act with integrity: We deal with personal data, so understanding and respect for confidentiality is a “must have”.
  • Pay attention to detail: This job is very detail-oriented, so consistency in the little things is important.
  • Communicate effectively: Working with patrons can be both challenging and rewarding – conveying information clearly is very important in this role.
  • Are time efficient & a self-starter: Student Workers often complete tasks unsupervised, so efficient use of time and the ability to take initiative are expected.

Experience required:

  • No direct library experience is necessary as training will be provided.
  • Experience in a customer service environment will be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Library’s catalogue and databases will be considered an asset.

Additional Information:

  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
