Live Experiences at Holographic Concerts: Artistry, Integrity, and Audience Immersion in Virtual Performances
Are you curious about new music technologies?
Would you like to build your research skills by studying the cultural impact of holographic concerts around the world?
Dr. Alyssa Michaud is hiring research assistants for a two-year SSHRC-funded research project on audience experiences in virtual concerts.
What are we researching?
In recent years, holographic performance technology has grown from a niche technological stunt into a viable performance option for well-known musical artists such as ABBA. “Live Experiences at Holographic Concerts” explores the creation of immersive audience experiences in holographic concerts, documenting how the integration of these technologies is shifting musical practices and outcomes.
What will you do?
Research assistants will be directly involved in the research process, will work from 5 to 10 hours per week between November and May, and will have travel opportunities for concert attendance, interviews, and/or conference presentation. Responsibilities include completing training in theory and methods, transcription of interviews with artists and fans, attending meetings, collecting and tagging of online source materials, primary source analysis, secondary literature review, and database management. Wages will be dependent on education and experience, based on the salary grid for teaching and research assistants.
Who can apply?
Ideal applicants will have:
• Current Ambrose student status with a GPA of at least 3.0
• A musical background, or comfort discussing and writing using musical terminology
• Strong time management skills and the ability to reliably complete independent work by given deadlines
• Experience in upper-level research courses in music or the humanities
• Excellent attention to detail, and ability to prepare accurate typed transcriptions of audio interviews
• Curiosity about research questions related to live performance and technology
