Hiring: Student Library Assistant

We have an opening for one Ambrose student for the upcoming Spring Term and Summer months. The contract will run from May 2 – end of August 2022, and weekly schedule will depend on library staffing needs and the availability of applicant(s).

 

During the Summer, the Student Library Assistant will:

  • Run the Circulation Desk:
    • Answer queries by phone, email, in person
    • Manage circulation workflow (returns, hold requests, check outs)
    • Help students learn and use the library’s resources
    • Re-shelve books, complete ongoing shelf-reading and shifting
    • Process new books to prepare for circulation
    • Assist with interlibrary loan processes
    • Carry out opening/closing library procedures
  • Help with Technical Services:
    • Unpack, receive and prepare invoicing for new materials
    • Create spine labels
    • Perform minor book repairs
  • Perform any other duties or special projects as determined by Library Staff

To succeed in the job, Student Library Assistants:

  • Act with integrity: We deal with personal data, so understanding and respect for confidentiality is a “must have”.
  • Pay attention to detail: This job is very detail-oriented, so consistency in the little things is important.
  • Communicate effectively: Working with patrons can be both challenging and rewarding – conveying information clearly is very important in this role.
  • Are time efficient & a self-starter: Student Workers often complete tasks unsupervised, so efficient use of time and the ability to take initiative are expected.

Experience required:

  • Equivalent of one semester as an Ambrose Library Student Worker.

Additional Information:

  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
