Sessional Theatre Instructor, Fall 2026 Semester

Position Summary

Ambrose University invites qualified applicants to submit teaching resumes for a sessional Theatre Instructor position at Ambrose University. Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Chair of Ambrose Arts and other Arts faculty, the successful applicant will be called upon to deliver TH 100 Introduction to the Theatre in the Fall 2026 semester.

Introduction to the Theatre, Fall 2026

This course is an exploration of the nature and potential of theatre. Open to all students, this course surveys elements of theatre history, genre, vocabulary, theory, research, and tradition through readings, viewings, praxis, and lectures. Students will encounter representative theatrical figures and major works, and experience local live theatre events. They will be introduced to the various components of theatre production and asked to consider the relationship between theatre, artistic expression, and society.

Duties of the instructor will include preparing course syllabi, preparing and teaching weekly classes, evaluating student progress and assigning grades, and working with departmental staff to organize field trips.

This position is a contract appointment for a specified term, usually per semester or academic year, with no presumption of continuing employment.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum Master’s degree in Theatre or a related discipline; extensive professional experience may also be considered
• Demonstrated successful undergraduate theatre or performing arts teaching, with a commitment to high-quality, student-centered teaching
• Demonstrated experience as a team player and colleague in an arts faculty
• Proven skills in theatre, including live performance or related practice
• Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to integrate Christian perspectives into teaching and learning
• Reside locally in the Calgary, Alberta region
