Ambrose University reappoints Dr. Kyle Jantzen as Dean of Arts and Science
September 12, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta - Ambrose University is pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Kyle Jantzen as Dean of Arts and Science. Dr. Jantzen first joined Ambrose in 1999 as Director of Non-Traditional Education and led in the development of the History program, which was launched in 2003, eventually serving as Program Chair and Professor of History. He has served as Dean of Arts and Science since 2021, providing steady leadership through a period of academic growth and innovation.
As Dean, Dr. Jantzen has championed excellence in teaching and research across the Faculty of Arts & Science. He has worked collaboratively with faculty to strengthen programs, support work-integrated learning, and ensure students are equipped with the skills and perspectives they need to thrive in today’s complex world. His leadership has been marked by a commitment to integrating faith and learning, fostering a supportive academic environment, and encouraging scholarly engagement both inside and outside the classroom. His achievements include a successful application for the Targeted Enrolment Expansion Grant in Social Sciences, developing a four-year Arts and Science Strategic Plan, and he is currently leading the faculty in developing character education by integrating intellectual virtues in the Arts and Science curriculum.
“Dr. Jantzen’s thoughtful leadership and dedication to our mission have helped shape the Faculty of Arts & Science into a place where students are inspired to pursue truth, think critically, and serve with compassion,” says Dr. Bryce Ashlin-Mayo, President of Ambrose University. “We are grateful for his ongoing commitment and look forward to seeing the Faculty continue to flourish under his guidance.”
Reflecting on his reappointment, Dr. Jantzen shared: “It is a privilege to work alongside such gifted colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and Science. I appreciate the strength of their scholarly expertise, their excellence as teachers, and their commitment to the integration of Christian faith and academic learning. Together, we are building an academic community in which we prepare our students for meaningful service in the world.”
In addition to his role as Dean, Dr. Jantzen continues to contribute actively as a historian and teacher. He teaches courses on Nazi Germany, the history of genocide, and the Protestant Reformation, as well as UNI 101, the foundational course for incoming first-year students. His scholarship focuses on modern European history, particularly Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, and the responses of Christian churches.
Dr. Jantzen has written extensively on these subjects, including his book Faith and Fatherland: Parish Politics in Hitler’s Germany, as well as numerous articles and chapters on the churches in Nazi Germany and North American Christian responses to the persecution of Jews in the 1930s and 1940s. He has been closely connected to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) for many years, participating in a variety of teaching and research programs and currently serving on the USHMM Committee on Ethics, Religion, and the Holocaust.
Beyond his own research, Dr. Jantzen has played a significant role in the broader academic community as the long-time Managing Editor of Contemporary Church History Quarterly, and as a reviewer of dozens of books and manuscripts in his field.
Ambrose congratulates Dr. Jantzen on his reappointment and celebrates the continued strength of the Faculty of Arts & Science under his leadership.
