Ambrose Scholars Corner 2023: An Annual Affair of Faculty Scholarly Work
Each year Ambrose hosts a Scholar’s Corner as a way for faculty members to display and discuss their research engage with the wider academic community. This year’s Scholar’s Corner boasted 43 pieces of research from 19 faculty members. The guest speaker Dr. Colin Toffelmire, Chair, School of Ministry, Professor of Old Testament.
Dr. Toffelmire began his talk by discussing the concept of tradition as a construct. He argued that tradition is not a static or fixed entity, but rather a dynamic process of interpretation and adaptation that is shaped by experiences and perspectives. He explained that tradition is a living and evolving entity that constantly adapts to changes in its environment.
The discussion then turned to the idea of God's self-revelation, which Dr. Toffelmire described as a dynamic and ongoing process of discovery and growth. He explained that revelation is not a one-time event, but an unfolding process that deepens over time as one comes to know God more deeply.
Finally, Dr. Toffelmire delved into the role of prophecy as a form of divine revelation. He clarified that prophecy is not about predicting the future, but rather about providing insights into God's character and purposes. Prophecy is a powerful tool for opening up new possibilities and revealing hidden truths, and it deepens one's understanding of God and one's relationship with Him.
The attendees left the Ambrose Scholars Corner feeling inspired and invigorated by Dr. Toffelmire's insights, eager to continue exploring the ever-evolving nature of tradition, divine revelation, and prophecy. They were grateful for the opportunity to engage with such a thought-provoking speaker and to be part of a community that values intellectual curiosity and rigorous scholarship.
