On November 10, 2025, Ambrose University celebrates the 100th birthday of Dr. Edwin Barry Moore, a pioneering Canadian evangelist whose ministry has touched lives across the globe and whose legacy continues to shape Ambrose today.
From London, Ontario to a Global Ministry
Born in London, Ontario in 1925, Barry Moore’s life was defined by faith, service, and a heart for evangelism. Before he was known as “the Canadian Billy Graham,” he was a young teacher and Youth for Christ volunteer with a growing passion to share the gospel.
After earning his Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario, Barry led the London Youth for Christ chapter and pursued further theological training at Columbia Bible School (now Columbia International University), where he earned a master’s degree in Biblical Education and Missions.
A Vision for Evangelism
In 1959, when an opportunity to serve in France ended, Barry followed God’s new calling to evangelize across Canada. He founded Crusade Evangelism of Canada, the first interdenominational, Canadian-based evangelistic association. His ministry quickly expanded across North America and beyond, leading to the formation of Crusade Evangelism International (CEI) in 1967.
Through CEI, Barry conducted more than 700 evangelistic crusades in over 50 countries, often featuring music, preaching, and community outreach. His 1967 gospel film Man of Steel won national recognition and brought the message of faith to new audiences.
A Lasting Legacy
Dr. Moore’s influence extended far beyond the crusade stage. He established the Barry Moore School of Evangelism, trained countless ministry leaders, and mentored evangelists who carried his passion for the gospel to new generations. In 1977, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Winnipeg Theological Seminary, and in 1989, named a Distinguished Alumnus of Columbia International University.
When Barry retired in 2011, he ensured his life’s mission would continue through Ambrose University, especially through the strengthening of biblically based preaching and evangelism in the 21st century.

A Century of Impact
Barry Moore’s century-long journey reflects unwavering faith, pioneering leadership, and a deep commitment to sharing the hope of Christ. From classrooms in Ontario to crusades around the world, his message remains the same; the transformative power of the gospel knows no borders.
Happy 100th birthday, Dr. Moore. Your legacy of evangelism continues to inspire generations at Ambrose and beyond.
