The Head Coach for Women’s Volleyball provides leadership, implements strategy, acts as a mentor, supervises, and coordinates all facets of the athletic team. The Head Coach uses their knowledge of the sport to assess the skills of the players and improve the overall skill level of individual athletes and the team. The Head Coach promotes team unity and seeks to develop the athletes on and off the playing field. The Head Coach works with the Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation to organize the team.

Work hours: 24 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruit athletes, run the ID camp, and make roster selections to have full team rosters.
  • Plan practices and develop game plans.
  • Work on developing individual skill as well as team strategy and success.
  • Provide leadership and feedback during games.
  • Organize road trips, exhibition games, and tournaments.
  • Attend Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) coaches’ meetings.
  • Attend Athletics department meetings (every other week).
  • Meet with the Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation for regular 1-on-1 meetings at least once per month.
  • Have regular office hours (5-10 hours per week) during the academic year.
  • Meet individually with the athletes at least twice per year.
  • Promote off court workouts and nutrition in conjunction with the trainers.
  • Provide video analysis.
  • Lead one or two summer camps each summer.
  • Cast vision for the future of the teams.
  • Build a coaching staff around the team as needed (i.e., Strength and Conditioning Coach, Assistant Coaches, Chaplains, etc.).
  • Promote team unity.
  • Represent the team and Ambrose appropriately at games and practices.
  • Be active in professional development opportunities.
  • Administrative duties (e.g., work with athletes, coaches, team trainers, etc.) to organize the team.
  • Respond to ACAC athletics staff within two business days in their communication.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Coaching Certification NCCP Certified Advanced Development Coach (old Level II) attained or in process.
  • Experience with athletics, leadership, coaching, and administrative in a high-performance setting is preferred.

  • A compensation package commensurate with education and experience is available.
