Position Summary

VP External serves as a point person on external committees to the ASC and advocates for students and the university specifically regarding academics. This is a position elected by the Student Association.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sit on all academic committees on campus as a student representative (APPC, TLC, etc.). And be aware of any other relevant committees that would benefit from student representation and request to have a seat.

  • To manage external relations with non-Ambrose parties including (but not limited to):

    • Maintaining an active role in the Alberta Students' Executive Council (ASEC) by attending conferences and communicating with student leaders from other Alberta institutions.

    • Maintaining an active role in the Calgary Students' Alliance (CSA) by attending meetings and communicating with student leaders from other Calgary institutions.

  • To be one of the signing officers along with the VP Internal and the President.

  • Will liaise with the Education Program's Student Association (ESA) to create academic related opportunities for them to interact with the undergraduate student body.

  • Chair the Student Program Advocacy Committee (SPAC) (membership constituting 1 student from each program to be nominated by their respective faculty chair). And will meet with the members of this committee to gain a pulse on the various programs to better advocate on behalf of the student body.

  • Will advocate for programs and courses according to student body interest/needs.

  • To be actively working on a minimum of 3 'special projects' or advocacy related tasks throughout the school year.

  • To act in partnership with the President of the Student Council as a leader for the team and the student body.

Duties and responsibilities performed within one's capabilities that do not constitute a major change may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of the supervisor either orally or in writing.

Job Standards and Requirements:

  • Minimum CGPA of 2.30.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of three (3) credit hours at Ambrose per semester.
  • Any previous experience in advocacy, public relations, and policy or official document work will be considered an asset.

Traits & Attitudes:

Detail oriented, administratively capable, passionate about student needs, well-spoken, respected by faculty.

Compensation: Determined by Constitution (3.5% of SA Fees)
