Manager, Lions' Store [10.5 month position annually]
The Manager, Lions’ Store provides leadership and operational oversight for Ambrose University’s campus retail store. This role is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the store, including merchandising, inventory management, marketing, and customer engagement. The Manager plays a key role in championing Ambrose’s brand through the look and feel of the store, strong collaboration with faculty, staff and students, and relationship‑building with vendors and partners both on and off campus.

This position is a 10.5 month position August 1 to June 15 each year (June 16 to July 31st is unpaid time off)
Successful candidate will start during the month of July for training and onboarding
Store Operations & Merchandising
- Oversee daily store operations, including sales, ordering, merchandising, marketing, and communication.
- Maintain high merchandising and presentation standards that reflect Ambrose’s brand and values.
- Plan and execute the annual merchandise buying schedule (e.g., apparel, gift items, fan gear, stationery, drinkware, general interest books).
- Source new products and vendors by attending virtual and in‑person conferences and consulting industry resources (e.g., Cancoll Buying Guide).
Brand, Marketing & Engagement
- Foster the Lions’ Store brand in alignment with Ambrose University’s brand through store design, signage, promotional materials, and cross‑campus collaboration.
- In collaboration with the Communications department, manage and grow the Lions’ Store social media presence.
- Coordinate one to two annual merchandise photoshoots, including developing shot lists, organizing products and models, and supporting content creation for social media, web, and marketing use.
- Build relationships across campus and externally, including Calgary church communities and other post‑secondary bookstore leaders.
Textbooks & Course Materials
- Manage the textbook ordering process, including:
- Creating and distributing order forms
- Communicating with instructors
- Building purchase orders and coordinating with vendors
- Monitoring enrolment changes and shipment delays
- Coordinate and support the VitalSource eBook program with instructors and students.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and improve satisfaction with digital course materials.
Leadership, Finance & Inventory
- Provide leadership, development, and daily supervision to Lions’ Store staff and student employees.
- In collaboration with the Executive Vice President, Operations, develop the store budget, report monthly on performance, and implement plans to meet targets.
- Manage inventory, conduct annual and ad hoc inventory counts, oversee stock organization and storage, and ensure accurate records.
- Increase store visibility and customer engagement through participation in university events (e.g., orientations, open houses, athletic events, and graduation). Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Five or more years of experience in retail, customer service, and/or management preferred.
- Experience with social media marketing, Canva, and coordinating photoshoots.
- Experience working in a post‑secondary environment is an asset.
