Welcome Dr. Joseph Roso to Ambrose

Join us as we welcome Dr. Joseph Roso as an Assistant Professor of Sociology to the Social Science Department. Dr. Roso joins us from the United States. Get to know Dr. Roso!

You are new to Calgary; can you tell us where you were before and what you were doing there?
Most recently I was working as a post-doctoral research associate within the Religion and Social Change Lab at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. While there, I was researching trends in religious congregations, their practices, and the political engagement of their leaders.

Meaning-Making in Trauma & Chronic Illness: Student Research

Senior Social Sciences students, both in the BA Behavioural Science and Psychology, can apply to complete an Independent Research Project. This allows high-achieving students to conduct their own research under faculty supervision over four semesters as they develop methodology, gain ethics approval, collect data and present findings at the annual Ambrose Research Conference. This unique opportunity provides excellent experience for students considering future thesis research in graduate studies. Read on to hear from one student currently conducting research.

Social Sciences Fall Kick-Off

The Social Sciences Department, including both the BA Behavioural Science and BA Psychology, kicked off the academic year together with an outdoor concert. On an unseasonably hot September afternoon, Social Sciences students, faculty and staff gathered downtown at Prince’s Island Park to enjoy Phil in the Park, a performance by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Snacks and fans were shared as we sought to keep cool while catching up after the summer, meeting new students and enjoying the music. With over 30 students and 4 faculty & staff, it was a wonderful start to the year!
