Assistant/Associate Professor, English
Ambrose University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in English.
Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Science and working collaboratively with the Chair of Humanities and English faculty, the individual has a shared responsibility to deliver and strengthen the English program.
Ambrose is open to a wide range of specializations in the literature of the last 250 years, including the Romantics and nineteenth century, Modernism, the Inklings, and the novel. We seek primarily, though, for an exceptional classroom professor eager to teach broadly from “the best that has been thought and said in the world” and keenly interested in literature’s interactions with historic Christian faith.
The English program offers three- and four-year Bachelor of Arts degrees. It is situated within a small but collegial department of Humanities alongside programs in History, Christian Studies, and General Studies. The successful applicant will typically teach a 3-3 load, which will include a Romantics-present survey, introduction to literature, and composition courses, along with senior electives in areas of specialization and broader interest.
Start Date: August 2025
- Prepare and teach English and composition courses.
- Complete ongoing research and publication.
- Participate in regular committee work at departmental and university levels.
- Supervise senior students’ independent research projects
- Provide student academic advising and mentoring.
- Periodically be involved in student recruitment, curriculum development, and other department co-curricular initiatives.
- PhD in English by the time of appointment.
- Clear potential for excellent university teaching.
- Capacity for success in research.
- Desire and ability to relate Christian faith and the study of literature.
- A compensation package commensurate with education and experience is available.
- Employment is contingent upon satisfactory background criminal check and academic transcripts.
