About Ian Charter:

Ian R. Charter taught on the Faculty of Music at Ambrose University for 28 years (including Canadian Bible College, Ambrose University College/Nazarene University College). As Associate Professor of Music, he taught courses in conducting, aural skills, music history, music theory, and composition. Much of his career focused on directing the choral ensemble and tours for the University. Over the years he was also an enthusiastic participant in the Canadian community and church choral scenes, serving as Artistic Director for the Regina Philharmonic Choir (2002-2003 season), and more recently directing the choirs of First Baptist Church and Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary. As a published composer/arranger, he champions the writing of music for the church and college-level ensembles.

He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary and a Master of Music degree from the University Of Oregon School Of Music. Upon his retirement in 2019, Ambrose University established a scholarship in his honour.
